Months end and passing away

This month has been a lot of things for me; filled with promise, opportunity, productivity, etc. And as the first month of the new year draws to a close, I take a look at things around me and can’t help but feel…conflicted?

Recently, the newspapers have been filled with disheartening events, and it’s not about the war overseas or stock markets or fuel prices. In the past week alone, I’ve found out that friends of friends/friends of the family have passed away; unfortunately, some rather tragically. I won’t go into details here, but needless to say, it’s had a sobering effect on me.

I’ve known death; through funeral announcements/obituaries of public figures and sometimes acquaintances and old teachers/mentors…and always I’ve felt the pang of regret. ‘I should have emailed him…’ or ‘I saw her just last month…’, things like that go through my mind, and yet… I distance myself emotionally from it, because yes, I fear death, knowing I have so much more to live for and dream of doing in my life…

I offer my prayers to those who pass away and sympathy for those who remain. And only hope that before my time comes, I have lived my life as best I could and left my loved ones with happy memories…

Gonna get ugly…

I’ll be tweaking the layout a bit, adding some elements, and hopefully have a successful self-made layout…so, things are gonna get ugly, really…might wanna come back after a few hours… :P

Edit: So, here it is…a mellow type of pink layout. Not too bad I guess…but now I’m already thinking of making another one! :D

Save a life with video games?

Posted in Gaming, In the News on January 19th, 2008 by waltz – Be the first to comment

It’s been a pretty boring, if not sluggish, week for me; hence the lack of blogging. But as I was checking my Yahoo Mail today, one of the news headlines popped out at me…

A gamer’s virtual skills save a real life…

Whoa! Now, I’d be the first to admit that some games have actual real life application (hand-eye coordination, timing, *cough cough*) but this really came as a surprise to me. Then, I read the article and found out that the game “America’s Army” does real-life simulation of actual soldiering, including training to become a medic.

To me, that is one super cool game-feature; being able to learn how to deal with emergencies. I know I won’t learn first-aid playing Soul Calibur 3, that’s for sure… :P

Grrr…

Who knew today would start out with my new WP install giving me shit over how I want my permalinks to look? Because, really, I didn’t…

Edit: Okay, so it wasn’t such a great day for me, everything-wise, and then I finally get nitpicky about my WP settings…and they don’t work! Argh…fine, stay that way! Ugly ‘index.php’… *grumble grumble* :x

I’ve uploaded the new layout for the main page. Though it isn’t particularly exciting news, I thought it was worth a mention. :)

It was another step towards reconstructing most of the site’s pages and file structure, something I think will take a while for me to do. Not to mention providing new content, adding functionality, and whatnot. :P
